On the morning of March 3rd, the award ceremony of 2010 SYSU Yang Zhenning Physics Scholarship for Postgraduate Students was held in Xian Weijian Hall. Wang Biao, the dean of School of Physics and Engineering, OuYang Kequan, the secretary of the Party Committee of the school, Yang Peiqin, the vice-president and Yang Donghua, the deputy secretary as well as the students who won the scholarship and student representatives, altogether more than twenty people were present at the award ceremony.

The honorable winners of the scholarship are two doctoral candidates Zhou Hong and Chen Dongyang.

The dean Wang Biao indicated SYSU Yang Zhenning Physics Scholarship for Postgraduate Students, which was set in the School of Physics and Engineering, is an elite brand. The standards of the winners are high. The winners are required to have a strong spirit of innovation and strong scientific research ability. Also, an outstanding achievement in scientific research is indispensable. They have set up a good example for the other students and made the scholarship really work. The dean also hoped students of School of Physics and Engineering have a higher requirement for themselves, be innovate in scientific research, not afraid of enduring hardship and achieve a better result.

OuYang Kequan, the secretary of the Party Committee of the school emphasized the significance of setting SYSU Yang Zhenning Physics Scholarship for Postgraduate Students. School of Physics and Engineering has an active atmosphere in research, playing a positive role in students’ attitude towards research and their spirit of innovation. He also hoped students value their time in school, thirst for knowledge, study assiduously to be a model for others and maintain the good academic reputation of the school with their action.

The representative of the winners said the strong atmosphere of the school has cultivated their spirit of innovation. Their achievement is inseparable with their teachers’ cultivation. They will keep up working hard so as to make a contribution to scientific research and live up to the teachers’ expectations.
