On the morning of September 20, 2019, the School of Marxism of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) held the Classic Works Presenting Ceremony in Swasey Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. The School of Marxism presented each postgraduate student with 17 Marxism classics including
Selected Works of Marx and Engels, Selected Works of Lenin, Selected Works of Mao Zedong, Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping, Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (
first volume, second volume) in order to encourage and guide the postgraduate students to consolidate their theoretical foundation.
The School of Marxism held the Classic Works Presenting Ceremony.
Professor Li Jie, President of the Association of Chinese Historians; Professor Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Professor Luo Jun, President of SYSU; Professor Yu Minbin, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Professor Xu Junzhong, Member of the Marxist Theory Discipline Appraisal Group under the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, and Director of the Academic Committee of SYSU School of Marxism; Mr. Cui Jixin, Director of the Department of Marxism and Leninism of the People’s Publishing House; teacher representatives and all postgraduate students from SYSU School of Marxism attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Lin Jinping, Dean of SYSU School of Marxism.
The ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Professor Xu Junzhong delivered a speech, elaborating the reason and significance of the book presenting ceremony. He pointed out that presenting Marxism classics to postgraduate students of the School of Marxism is a declaration of values and stance, and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s requirement on reading Marxism classics and learning Marxism principles.
The officiating professors presented the classic works to the student representatives.
Afterwards, the officiating professors presented the classic works to student representatives. Master’s student Li Yongheng and PhD candidate Yang Sha gave a speech on behalf of the students, expressing their determination to meet the expectations of the university and the school, study classics carefully, and move forward with the new era.
Professor Li Jie delivered a keynote report.
Professor Li Jie was invited to give a keynote report entitled “The significance and methods for young students to study Marxism classics”. He said that students in the School of Marxism should combine studying Marxism classics with studying the latest results of Marxism in contemporary China, and especially study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on Marxism. The students should broaden their horizon of knowledge, optimize their knowledge structure and become interdisciplinary talents.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng delivered a speech, saying that Professor Li Jie’s report was earnest, insightful and dialectical. He encouraged the students to regard the classic works presenting ceremony as a beginning of their study and practice, through reading classics pass on the traditions of revolution, consolidate theoretical foundation, and become young Marxists in the new era.

President Luo Jun delivered concluding remarks. He stressed that SYSU is a university with revolution traditions. The university upholds the development direction of the “four services”, and attaches great importance to the construction of School of Marxism. The students at the School of Marxism should inherit the university spirit, study classics in a systematic, comprehensive and in-depth manner, and help SYSU students to grasp Marxist stance, viewpoints and methods, and become builders and successors of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
