The 2019 Autumn Work Conference of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) concluded in Guangming District of Shenzhen on September 22. President Luo Jun presided over the meeting in the afternoon. Secretary Chen Chunsheng delivered a keynote report on “remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind”. Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei delivered a report on disciplinary inspection. Members of the university leadership, Party secretaries, heads of schools, functional departments and affiliated hospitals, teacher representatives including various leading academics and researchers and committee members attended the meeting.
President Luo Jun presided over the conference.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng delivered a keynote report entitled “Keep in Mind the Original Aspiration and Mission, Promote Reform and Development, Implement the Fundamental Task of Fostering Virtue through Education”. With regard to the education campaign on the theme of “staying true to our founding mission” at the university, the report expounds the implications of the theme and requires us to remain true to the founding mission of the Party, grasp the significance of fostering virtue through education, and promote the reform and development of the university. He also mentioned that President Luo Jun’s report has made plans and arrangements for the university’s reform and development at present and in the future, and the participants held discussions and made insightful suggestions. These are practices and actions of remaining true to our original aspiration and shouldering the mission.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng emphasized that we should study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on “staying true to our founding mission”, and strengthen our sense of responsibility and sense of mission. We should combine the education campaign with the tasks of deepening comprehensive reform and development, strengthen our capabilities of nurturing talents for the Party and the country, and build a world-class university rooted in China.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng said that fostering virtue through education is the foundation of a socialist university as well as a glorious historical responsibility of our university. We must maintain political integrity, think in terms of the big picture, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership. We must have full confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and assume the historical responsibility of fostering virtue through education.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng pointed out that we should stay true to the original aspiration and the mission of Chinese Communists, and overcome the difficulties in the university’s high quality development. We should take the opportunity of the education campaign, carry out the various work of the university with a strong sense of responsibility and sense of mission, promote reform and development, take new actions, and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with outstanding achievements!
Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei delivered a report on disciplinary inspection.
At the meeting Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei delivered a report on disciplinary inspection, and analyzed the focus of overseeing discipline compliance by the Disciplinary Inspection Commission at the university. He required that through the education campaign, we should have firm ideals and convictions, unite knowledge and action, assume responsibility, and make contributions to the "double first-class” construction at the university.
According to academic disciplines and campuses, participants in the Autumn Work Conference were divided into 8 groups and held two discussion sessions. The group conveners reported their discussions at the plenary meeting. During the conference, Mr. Liu Sheng, Director of the Guangming District of Shenzhen, was also invited to present an introduction to the district construction.
