Professor Chen Chunsheng leads delegation on visit to the University of Cape Town

On July 11-16, 2016, Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Chairman of the University Board of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), led a delegation on a visit to the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. Prof. Chen met with Dr. Max Price, Vice-Chancellor of UCT, and discussed substantial cooperation between the two universities.

UCT is an important partner of SYSU in Africa. In 2010, SYSU and UCT jointly established the Confucius Institute at UCT. In 2015, the two universities signed an agreement for academic cooperation. Prof. Chen Chunsheng visited the Confucius Institute, Graduate School of Business, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Center for African Studies, and Faculty of Humanities. The two sides held in-depth discussions and reached many consensuses. The two universities will promote joint researches in eight fields including business, public health, clinical medicine, marine sciences, atmospheric sciences, supercomputing, social anthropology, and law. The two sides also reached preliminary intentions on issues such as strengthening student exchange, researcher visit and cooperation. Prof. Danie Visser, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mamokgethi Phaken, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Evance Kalula, Director of International Academic Programmes Office, as well as relevant faculty deans and department heads at UCT attended the meetings.
