On September 18-19, the SYSU 2014 Summer Work Conference was held on Zhuhai Campus to discuss issues about deepening reform. Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng presided over the two-day conference and delivered a speech respectively.
SYSU 2014 Summer Work Conference
Secretary Zheng Detao delivered a speech on deepening reform in all aspects of the university. He said that deepening educational reform is of great significance and there is an urgent need to step up the construction of a world-class university. Secretary Zheng Detao pointed out that we must implement the Party’s educational policy in an all-round way, ensure that the cultivation of people and moral integrity come first, promote dedication to learning and improve educational quality. We should step up reform in important fields, establish modern university system, implement the university charter, improve internal management, and build a dynamic, efficient and open school-running mechanism. We should also properly deal with the relations between specific reform and comprehensive reform, between inheritance and innovation, between system and culture, between Chinese characteristics and world-class.
President Xu Ningsheng made work arrangements for the university’s comprehensive reform. He pointed out that comprehensive reform in higher education will have a great impact on the university’s development. The core of modern university system includes management structure and operating mechanism. Our comprehensive reform is aimed to build a set of modern university system that can stimulate internal motivation, communicate with external environment, strive for excellence and fit the reality of the university’s development. President Xu Ningsheng stressed that we should focus on talent fostering, academic impact, cultural innovation and inheritance, and social service capabilities. Through comprehensive reform, we shall promote overall development and lay a solid foundation for building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
Deputy Secretary Li Ping reported on the preparations to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of Sun Yat-sen University by Dr. Sun Yat-sen; Vice President Wei Minghai reported on the introduction of high-level talents and teacher employment regulation; Vice President Li Shanmin introduced the latest national financial policies and requirements; Assistant President Ma Jun introduced the graduate student work of the university and reported on the work of Zhuhai Campus on behalf of Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng.
The conference organized five group discussions on “reforming innovative talent fostering”, "deepening personnel reform”, "perfecting internal management”, "coordinating international cooperation and exchange”, and “reforming research management”.
The university leaders and heads of functional departments, schools, affiliated hospitals, logistics group, industry group and relevant research units attend the conference.
