Recently, Sun Yat-sen University held the commendation meeting of the science and technology work during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and the summing-up meeting of the 2012 science and technology work in Swasey Hall on South Campus. President Xu Ningsheng and Assistant President Xia Lianghui were present at the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Liang Dan, Director of the Office of Medical Science. Deans of schools and heads of departments in science, engineering and medical science, presidents of affiliated hospitals, deputy deans (directors) in charge of scientific research, secretaries of scientific research, and representatives of scientific and technological personnel, a total of over 200 people attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Assistant President Xia Lianghui read out the University’s “Decision on Commending Advanced Units in Science and Technology Work and Excellent Scientific Research Teams during the ‘Eleventh Five-Year Plan’”, and commended 75 units and teams for their outstanding achievements in science and technology work during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. Prof. Shu Wensheng from the School of Life Sciences made a speech on behalf of the advanced units in science and technology work; Prof. Yu Xueqing from the First Affiliated Hospital made a speech on behalf of the excellent scientific research teams. Then, Xia Lianghui, Assistant President and Executive Deputy Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, gave a report on 2012 science and technology work on behalf of science and engineering; Liang Dan, Director of the Office of Medical Science, gave a report on behalf of medical sciences.
President Xu Ningsheng affirmed the achievements made by the University in science and technology work and extended thanks to all scientific and technological personnel for their contributions to the University’s scientific and technological development. He pointed out that the science and technology work of the University must center on the goal of “meeting national demand and achieving international level”, establish and improve relevant mechanisms and systems, and strengthen organizational management; pay attention to international academic frontiers, offer greater support to ensure that scientific research can enjoy a leading academic position; further enhance academic communication and realize the role transformation from the participant to the organizer.
