"Happy Gathering at SYSU - 2013 SYSU New Year Charity Dinner”, co-sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University Alumni Association and Sun Yat-sen University Education Development Foundation, was successfully held at Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich Hotel on December 5th. Professor Liu Mingkang, former Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission and Honorary Dean of Lingnan College, was specially invited to deliver a keynote speech; and Ms. Chen Xiaonan, renowned hostess of Phoenix TV, was invited to preside over the event. Cai Dongshi, SYSU alumnus and former Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee; Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and President of Education Development Foundation; Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University Alumni Association and Vice President of Education Development Foundation; and more than 260 alumni and community leaders attended the charity dinner.
On behalf of Sun Yat-sen University Alumni Association and Education Development Foundation, Deputy Secretary Li Ping made a speech. She extended warm welcome and New Year greetings to the guests, and expressed gratitude to the alumni and community leaders for their long-term support for the University's education. She also introduced the University's strategic goal of development in the new era and hoped that the alumni and community leaders could continue to support the educational development of the University.
Liu Mingkang, former Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission and Honorary Dean of Lingnan College, delivered a keynote speech on "Current Opportunities and Our Challenges”. The in-depth analysis and wonderful explanation won warm applause from the audience. Apart from offering a one-hour speech to the guests, Professor Liu also donated 20,000 yuan in his own name to support the SYSU museum project.
At the dinner, a signing ceremony was held, in which Gree Group donated 20,000,000 yuan to support the multi-function gymnasium project on Zhuhai Campus, SYSU. On behalf of the two sides, Huang Jiahai, Assistant to the President of Gree Group; Li Shanmin, Assistant President of SYSU; and Li Hanrong, Director of Education Development & Alumni Affairs Office, SYSU, exchanged the donation agreement and the donation check.
At the charity dinner, through auction and donation, money was raised for the SYSU museum project fund. Enthusiastic alumni including Fang Ming, Hong Chuping, Wang Kaiyuan and Chen Xiaoqi donated 17 precious collections and works, including calligraphy of Professor Shang Chengzuo and famous Hunan embroidery works to the charity auction, and all the proceeds would go to the museum project fund. Chen Kaixuan and Lai Ganfeng and other enthusiastic alumni also showed their sincerity and generously made donations to the museum project. With the active participation of the alumni and community leaders present at the dinner, the charity auction and donation obtained satisfactory results, with 6,934,000 yuan raised for the SYSU museum project.
