On the morning of December 17th, Professor Prem Ramburuth, President of the Academic Board at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), with another entourage, paid a visit to SYSU. Vice President Yan Guangmei met with the guests in the VIP Lounge of Zhongshan Building. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

Vice President Yan Guangmei expressed a warm welcome to Professor Prem Ramburuth and made a brief introduction to SYSU. Professor Prem Ramburuth briefly introduced some basic information about UNSW and explicitly explained its organization and management structure. The two sides discussed about student exchanges, joint cultivation of undergraduate and graduate students and etc, and both hoped to actively explore collaborations in medical sciences and engineering.
One of the purposes of Professor Ramburuth’s visit was to attend the Strategic Management Society (SMS) Special Conference hosted by School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University on December 14th -16th.

The University of New South Wales was established in 1949 to teach and conduct leading research in scientific and technological disciplines. It is a founding member of the Group of Eight, a coalition of Australia's leading research-intensive universities, and of the prestigious international network Universitas 21. Due to its first class research and teaching, UNSW is regarded as the top ten universities in the Asia-Pacific region by Asia Week, with its internationally renowned Faculty of Engineering, Australian School of Business and Faculty of Law.
In 2008, SYSU signed a memorandum with UNSW. In May 2011, Australian School of Business at UNSW signed a student exchange agreement with School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University. Besides, by November 2011, 14 students had been sent to UNSW to study according to the agreement of joint cultivation of undergraduates in Photovoltaics & Solar Energy, which was signed by School of Physics & Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University and Faculty of Engineering, UNSW in 2007.
Professor Ramburuth is President of the Academic Board at UNSW (the position is only below President & Vice-Chancellor, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor), and is a member of the UNSW Council.
