The appointment ceremony of Professor Song Hai was held at Lingnan Hall on November 22, 2012. Song Hai, former deputy governor of Guangdong Province, was appointed SYSU Professor and Honorary Director of the Institute of Finance at SYSU. President Xu Ningsheng presented the certificate of appointment to Professor Song Hai and delivered a speech. Prof. Song Hai then gave a theme lecture on “Analysis of the Current Economic Situation” to nearly 200 faculty and students.
At the appointment ceremony, President Xu Ningsheng congratulated Prof. Song Hai on his holding the positions of SYSU Professor of Finance and Honorary Director of the Institute of Finance, and he believed that Prof. Song’s appointment would make an important contribution to the discipline development, talent cultivation and enhancement of the University and Lingnan College.

Subsequently, Prof. Song Hai gave a theme lecture on “Analysis of the Current Economic Situation”. He looked ahead to the international economic situation and its impact on China's economic macro-control, shared his thoughts with faculty and students on how to maintain stable and healthy economic development, and put forward detailed policy recommendations for the next stage. He pointed out that, firstly, China's potential economic growth rate has been below the actual rate and the economic growth mode should be transformed as soon as possible; secondly, monetary policy should be transformed as the economy has entered a period of long-term structural adjustment; thirdly, great efforts should be made to cultivate the bond market for SMEs and reform community financial institutions to serve the real economy.
