On June 24, four sessions of the 2014 SYSU Commencement were held in K.K. Leung Hall on South Campus. The officiating professors marched in.

A respected senior professor held the scepter of Sun Yat-sen University and led the officiating professors into K. K. Leung Hall.

President Xu Ningsheng extended his right hand and shook hands with every graduating student.

"I’m the first to shake hands with the President."

Xu Xiaowen is an excellent undergraduate student from the Department of Chinese, and also the first student to shake hands with the President on the stage. The President asked: “Have you found a job?” She answered: “I’ve been recommended to study for my M.A. degree!” The President continued: “Here at SYSU?” She answered in excitement: “Yes. In our interview, she can speak fluent Chinese. The President asked about her nationality and congratulated her on her graduation. “I was so excited that I almost cried. In our country, the graduation is not so ceremonious. I want to stay at SYSU to pursue my master’s degree!”
