A 7.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Ya’an, Sichuan at 8:02 am on April 20. SYSU leaders attached great importance and concern.
On that morning, upon receiving an urgent notice from the Department of Medical Administration of National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Bureau of Affiliated Hospitals Administration of SYSU quickly set up the first SYSU medical relief team. The team is made up of 11 experts from The First Affiliated Hospital, 9 from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, 7 from The Third Affiliated Hospital and 2 from The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, including 22 medical specialists and 7 experienced nurses from the departments of general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, nephrology, critical care medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, infectious disease and hospital infection control. They have prepared urgently-needed medicines and goods for the quake-hit area and are waiting for further instructions to head to Ya’an for medical rescue and relief work.
At the request of the Division of Medical Administration of the Department of Health of Guangdong Province, SYSU also set up a medical group consisting of 3 experts from The First Affiliated Hospital, 3 from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, 2 from The Third Affiliated Hospital and 1 from The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, to join the Guangdong relief team for Ya’an.
Today, upon receiving the notice from the Division of Medical Administration of the Department of Health of Guangdong Province, The Third Affiliated Hospital also set up a three-member expert group of psychological intervention.
The SYSU relief teams are on stand-by 24 hours everyday and ready to head to the quake-stricken area for medical rescue and relief work.
